Lieutenant Jeffrey Newman
Jeffrey Newman joined the Guardian Defense team in 2018, where he specializes in delivering Active Threat Response programs for schools, businesses, and places of worship.
Jeff began his law enforcement career in January 2002 as a police officer in South Florida. Early in his career, he served in patrol and later in the motor unit before earning a position on the SWAT team in 2004. Over the course of his SWAT tenure, Jeff has held numerous key assignments, including Operator, Breacher, Sniper, Instructor, Team Leader, and currently serves as the SWAT Team Executive Officer (XO).
As a SWAT Operator, Jeff specialized in breaching operations and completed advanced mechanical, shotgun, and explosive breaching courses. His technical expertise and operational experience led to his selection as a breacher and later as an instructor, where he trained and mentored fellow team members. In preparation for executive leadership, Jeff completed Command Decision-Making and Leadership I & II, SWAT Team Leader Development, and Critical Decision Making for Complex Coordinated Attacks.
In 2013, Jeff was promoted to Sergeant, serving in patrol, the Accreditation Unit, and Special Events–Emergency Management. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2021, further expanding his leadership responsibilities.
Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University.
