Michael Lopinot has been an instructor with the Guardian Defense team since 2014. He is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 25 years of service and has a proven track record of leadership, tactical expertise, and operational excellence. Beginning his career as a patrol officer, he quickly distinguished himself through his commitment to public safety and community engagement.

Early in his career, Michael served as a K-9 handler in the apprehension unit, where he partnered with a highly trained police dog in high-risk operations, suspect tracking, and evidence recovery. His tactical acumen led to his selection to the department’s SWAT team, where he planned and participated in numerous high-stakes operations, including hostage rescues, warrant services, and crisis response.

His passion for training and mentorship guided him to become a certified training instructor, where he played a key role in shaping the next generation of officers and maintaining the proficiencies of his fellow officers through comprehensive instruction in defensive tactics, firearms, and tactical operations.

Promoted to patrol Sergeant, he led frontline units with a focus on proactive policing, accountability, and community partnership. His leadership expanded into specialized investigations as the Sergeant of the Narcotics Unit, where he oversaw complex investigations targeting drug trafficking organizations.

Most recently, Michael serves as the Fugitive Unit Sergeant and a Task Force Officer with the U.S. Marshals Service. In this dual role, he coordinates multi-agency efforts to locate and apprehend violent fugitives, demonstrating outstanding interagency collaboration and operational effectiveness.

Michael is respected for his tactical leadership, investigative expertise, and unwavering dedication to justice. His career reflects a lifelong commitment to protecting the public and supporting fellow officers.

Michael is also a 21-year U.S. Army veteran who retired with the rank of First Sergeant. His military career included two combat tours, to include Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as 4 years of service as an instructor at the U.S. Army Air Assault School.
