School Violence and Active Shooter Training for Teachers:

A.C.T. (Assess, Challenge and Train) School Program

The ACT School Program is designed to give teachers and staff the confidence needed in order to protect and defend the students for whom they are responsible, in the event of an intruder, active killer or other terror attack. This program is intended for public or private elementary, middle and high schools, as well as pre-schools and educational centers. Please contact us directly for our modified version for colleges and universities. The ACT School Program is offered in 3-steps:

  1. ACT Mock Scenario Training with Teachers at Boca Prep International School
    ACT Mock Scenario Training with Teachers at Boca Prep International School

    Confidential School Security Survey- The survey is completed by a Guardian Defense (“GD”) Assessor who will meet directly with the school principal or director to discuss current procedures and give recommendations for improvements through a detailed report.

  2. ACT Lecture- The lecture is a 3-4 hour interactive lecture on the importance of planning for hostile intruders and how to: (a) understand stress and the physiological effects during critical incidents, (b) protect the students in the event of an intruder and (c) communicate with authorities and first responders during an intruder incident.
  3. ACT Mock Scenario: Practical and Simulation- The mock scenario is a 3-hour experience in the classroom and/or office. Staff will be split into small groups and guided by a GD instructor. Staff will have the opportunity to implement and rehearse the principles and techniques discussed during the presentation and lecture. Staff will benefit from watching peers and will receive constructive feedback from GD instructors on how they can improve their current plan. GD instructors will perform a controlled live simulation, complete with blank ammunition, which will allow staff members to implement the techniques they have learned during a more realistic scenario. Everyone will be debriefed after the live simulation and have the opportunity to ask questions. The goal of the mock scenario is to ensure that staff leave the program feeling more confident in their abilities to develop and implement their own individualized plan for their classroom or office space. Note: No individual may participate in the Mock Scenario without first attending the ACT Lecture. It is imperative that all of the concepts are learned first before participating in this portion of the program

Guardian Defense is located in south Florida; however, we do travel outside this region to provide this service. This program is modified to fit any school, and not all three steps may be needed at every facility. Because each school has their own specific needs and their own number of participants, please call Guardian Defense to receive a personalized quotation. This program is already offered at a discounted rate in comparison to our other programs in order to reach as many schools as possible.

Active Shooter Training for Law Enforcement:

Single Officer Active Shooter Response Course

Guardian Defense is offering the “Single Officer Active Shooter Response Course” 3-day training course open to certified law enforcement officers for the purpose of training officers on how to respond to an active killer situation in a school, mall or other public area that is under attack. The course objectives are:

  • To identify active shooter and active killer threats;
  • To understand one’s direct role in an active shooter situation;
  • To learn critical response tactics as a solo officer or team;
  • To infiltrate the affected area as the responding officer; and
  • To implement limited penetration tactics to locate and eliminate the threat.

Since the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School, Law Enforcement has realized that the greatest enemy in an Active Shooter Incident is time.  Police agencies around the nation transitioned from a hold and wait for S.W.A.T. protocol to the newly developed Quick Action Deployment Team (also known as the “Qu.A.D.”), sending their first four arriving officers in immediately. When every shot fired is potentially a life lost, waiting should not be an option. Even in an urban environment where there are numerous officers minutes away, every second counts. With active shooter incidents lasting approximately 10-15 minutes, officers in scarcely populated rural areas require a single officer tactic to save lives in an active shooter event.

Rural agencies recognize the challenges that the Qu.A.D. response tactic presents due to the lack of personnel and response times for backup officers. The single officer approach has been found to be the most deliberate method to get an officer in direct contact with and to neutralize the threat.

The faster an officer intercepts an assailant during an active shooter incident, the faster the shooter(s) plan will be disrupted. Limiting the assailant’s movement and access to potential victims will reduce the number of lives lost and allows for quicker medical response to injured victims. Through a mixture of classroom, elaborate scenario-based training, and isolation drills, this three-day Single Officer Active Shooter Response Course will prepare individual officers to respond quickly and confidently to the threat.
